The Challenge

Need for emergency food assistance

When COVID-19 began to spread across the U.S. in March, food banks immediately saw an increase in demand. Food Bank of Northern Indiana was no different. We needed to act fast to reach donors and ask for their support during this time of need.

The Solution

Additional emergency appeal

RKD partnered with the client to adjust current mailings by updating copy and adding buck slips to call out the growing need the food bank was experiencing. However, we felt we needed to make even more of an impact. Since the food bank didn’t have a mailing planned for April, we developed an additional emergency mailing that appealed to donors during this heightened time to give.

Breakthrough

Donors provide relief

The emergency appeal raised $101,174 with a response rate of 20.2%, making this one of their highest grossing appeals to date. The revenue over cost came in at $18. Even better, the other appeals surrounding this additional mailing were not affected and are still hitting goals.
